If I install an electric in-line fuel pump between the fuel tank and the stock mechanical fuel pump and wire it so as to only be used to prime the fuel system before starting, once the engine starts and the electric pump is no longer running will the fuel being pulled by the mechanical pump pass through the electric pump? If so, will this damage the electric pump? I'm still trying to solve my "Losing prime overnight" problem and this is about the only thing left I can think of to try. I would wire the electric pump to a switch that I would turn off after the engine starts. If this sounds like a good/bad idea I'd appreciate any feedback. Other suggestions gratefully accepted.

No fuel leaks that I can see.
Truck starts fine all day but needs shot of gas down the gullet every morning.
I too wanted to install an electric fuel pump to be used solely as a priming pump, the float bowls in my Eddy carb tend to go dry after sitting for 3-5 days, and i hated the annoying/embarrassing crank, crank, crank, pump, crank, crank, crank routine, not to mention the unnecessary wear and tear on the battery and starter....
but long story short i ended up going with an Airtex pump, after first having no success with a Carter pump, the following link will explain it all in detail......
Awesome! Thanks guys! Glad I'm not the only one thinking up these Rube-Goldberg pipe dreams. I'm gonna try it. Somewhere I heard of a guy that actually wired the pump to his no longer used windshield washer pump circuit so all he had to do was let go of the switch when the engine started. Now, I remember back in "the sixties" we used to clean out the washer reservoir, reroute the rubber house into the cab, fill the reservoir with Red Mountain Vin Rose. Put the end of the hose in your mouth, push the washer button and Red Mountain came squirting right in your mouth. Great for getting around the old "open container" laws.
Again Thanks.
I was just having this problem with my truck and was wondering what I should do. This is why I surf these forums so much, thanks guys for having similar problems as me and having the know how to fix it.
i have two elecgtric pumps... one is on with the key and a second one as a "booster" to say< def helps with the start up, i have it on a aux switch mounted near my light switch.
