Hello, is it possible to buy a high volume mechanical fuel pump for the Ford 460ci engine ? As I would prefer to use a mechanical fuel pump in my 552ci build, I have searched Jegs and Summit racing but can only find a 130 GPH fuel pump... any pointers, Thanks Jamie.
Is there any specific reason why to go with the mechanical? I had to add an electric inline pump to my uncle's 79 150 because if the truck sat for more that 5 days, the mechanical took forever to re-prime and when it did, the fuel filter (one of those clear jobbys) never really "filled up" all the way. I put the electric inline with the mechanical, but back near the tank, and now after he turns the key on, within 2 seconds the filter is full. Not saying that a good mechanical doesn't have it's place, but on your 552ci, it might not give enough fuel for that motor.
Hello,To be honest I just do not like electric fuel pumps... I had one once in a car and it was noisy as hell ! Would a Holley 130+ GPH mechanical fuel pump feed the 552ci ( 600 to 650 horsepower) I did have a look at a Edelbrock Victor serie's 460ci mechanical pump and it states it will feed up to 800 horsepower- so maybe the Edelbrock Victor fuel pump might be the way to go for me, and will 3/8 fuel line be O-K from tank to carb with this engine???
The Mallory elec. pumps are very quiet. I believe the newer Holley pumps are also. These pumps are gerator style pumps the noisy kind is a vane pump.
Like the older Holley red or blue pumps.

Probably not on the Holleys feeding the big CIDs. I had a customer a few years back with a 31 foot offshore racing catarmaran with twin 502 BB Chevies with mechanical Holleys and without the electrics feeding the mechanicals the engine went flat on the big end, above 5000 rpm.
Hello Bear 45/70, are you saying to use both a mechanical and electric fuel pump ??? as that what it sounds like. Do you know of any reasonable priced high volume electric pump, as the ones I have looked at are in the $400 to $500 price range, also what GPH to I need to look for in a fuel pump to feed my 552ci.

Yes, run both and the pumps were Holleys, but I can't remember for sure which ones the electric pumps were, but they were red. Damn, thinking about it that was 1994, no wonder I'm having trouble remembering.
You can get the Summit electric pump for like $129, with a regulator. It flows 130gph ad 14psi. The summit pump is the same as the Holley "black" pump, just cost less....

I'm in the process of building a 588ci 12-71 Blown BBF for my boat, I'm going to use a mechanical fuel pump!!! Forget Jegs, or Summit or anyone else!!
Use a CLAY SMITH FUEL PUMP!!! These guy's have been there done that for years, 140 gph, 14-16 psi (yes you will have to use a pressure reg) can handle well over 1,000 horse power!!! (1,300 gas and 1,100 alcohol)
I'm running an edelbroke in my ranger. It's only a small block, but it sucks the fuel. I called, and told them my build and the sent me a custom built mechanical for the truck. It holds arou 14-16 p.s.i and is rated to flow 140, but I have no way to test it out.
Basically what I am saying, call up the big guys, they are more than happy to build you what you need.

What the h#ll kind of carb or you running to have a needle and seat the will handle 14-16 PSI? Otherwise I'm calling BS on you claim.
dual 600's on a 347, It's a nasty little motor. It's an all edelbrock engine, Torker plus cam, performer carbs, performer heads-2.02v, flat tops, blah blah blah. Alot of money, that basically sets and looks purdy. Can't afford to drive it.
