They changed the plug, which I got from Napa, cause they were going to change the whole Harness, which is probably better in the long run, but, this was cheaper and faster. the whole harness is like $500.00 the plug was $30.00 and two days faster getting here, and changed the Valve cover Gasket with the wires inside the valve cover and the air intake hose was broken where the clamp was, so changed that, ford parts there, just the plug was a Napa part
Silly question - Tells wehre the crankshaft is spinning so it knows when to fire the injectors right?
Tells where the CAMshaft is, so it knows when to fire EACH injector individually. With direct injection and compression ignition, injection timing per cylinder is critical. Crank position tells only half the story, so to speak.
What does the Cam Sensor Do? And is this something i should be worried about on my old 91 7.3 L Diesel?
As these guys have said it senses the position of the engine and tells the PCM where things are so it knows when to fire the injectors. However, unless someone has swapped a PSD into your '91, you have nothing to worry about as the 7.3 IDI is all mechanical injection and doesn't have a CPS.
Hey ya, Just to let you all know how right you are, I had put that napa cps in, before the shop fixed the burnt wires, and it was bad, made the engine miss every once in awhile, cause I put the old one back in just now and it runs way better.
Soon as I get to real Ford dealer I will go get one from there. I believe there are other parts that Napa sells that have the same reputation of not being any good, like the starter?
Good on ya all

My opinion of NAPA parts in general is pretty high, but the CPS is one thing that the aftermarket companies have never been able to figure out. The OEM CPS is far and away the best solution. In general NAPA parts seem to be better quality than the other chain stores (Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Oriley's, etc). There are some things for these truck though that the OEM quality is worth paying for, things like the CPS, starters, water pumps, etc.
