2WD Low Range?

I stumbled on a site while looking at a running light install. I don't know what thread I found the link on, but someone from this board linked to his personal page on mods he did to his 04 F250. I don't know his screen name and I want to make sure he gets credit on his mods, so here is his site:
2004 F250 Super Duty 4x4

He's got a boat load of little mods he did and you all might get some ideas.

The mod I'm curious about is one he did to trick out the ESOF to get his truck to run in 2WD Low Range by simply adding a relay to a wire under the hood that tied back to a switch on his dash.

I'm wondering...when would you all use something like that 2WD Low Range? I think I read on one a different page that he thought it was useful when putting a boat in, etc. I'm thinking, for that short distance of pulling out a boat, what's wrong with using 4WD Low? I mean, unless you are 'bending' the trailer down/up the ramp...and even then, the ramp is probably wet from others putting in/taking out...

Just wondering what you guys would use 2WD Low for? It's an easy mod, just not sure of the purpose.

I threw the POS ESOF hubs away and replaced them with Mile Markers. I leave them unlocked and use 4Lo backing my trailer into it's parking spot beside the house. I am on dry concrete until I get the trailer pretty far back in and don't want the front axle engaged. I like the torque of 4Lo so that the tranny isn't working so hard and the finer control. I am careful, that is a lot of torque on just the rear axle.

Robert, the member's name is 1975StroppeBaja, He does very good write-ups on his mods. This 2wd low range mod is on my to do list. I want it for both the boat ramp and for spotting the Toyhauler trailer in tight spots. The low range gives you better / slower control for those tight spots when you have to "thread the needle".

Sounds like the consensus is that this is a useful mod.

...now to figure out where I'm going to put the button...hmmm.
