I just want some clarification that I am not gonna hurt anything running my truck in 2wd low moving heavy trailers at low speed. I just leave my manual hubs in Free and shift the lever into 4wd low range.
I had a 1995 F150 with the manual hubs but, I never had a heavy trailer to try this out with.
Ditto I have pretty much the same gears and tranny as SR and I pop mine in 4L all the time when I am parking my trailer and moving around trailers it helps tremendously with a standard or auto tran
Awesome. I am loving this truck more and more. The SD chassis and drive train is so stout and tough compared to the F-150 drive train. Specifically the transmissions, manual hubs, and front solid axle
I don't think it hurts anything, although my old F150 owners manual warned against doing that. But I never understood why, and did it anyway without any apparent harm.
But I would offer one caution - make sure your brakes are in good condition. They will barely hold these trucks back in low range low gear, and with a heavy trailer on a hill, they might not.

this is true, when off roading in low range, the brakes definitely feel weak, you made a really good point, thanks for bringing this up...
You could back up a mountain in low range and the ultra low first gear in the ZF transmission.
You're not going to do much backing up in a forward gear
