Truck has been running rather rough for the past few weeks and will shutter and will be hard to keep at a given speed when it acts up. It will also get the romp, romps, on occasion, when I come to an idle. The truck doesn't have a code all the time but it will turn on the Check engine on occasion when this stuff happens. The last time I had Ford read for codes there was nothing stored.
I've seen that the ICP has oil in the plug area and I also have oil in the valley but not a large amount, just enough to keep it damp. I cleaned the ICP the other week and the plug is still dry a week later but I have no doubt that the ICP will need to be replaced. The HPOP lines are not leaking any where that I can see but the IPR is wet and coated in caked up oil.
I want to do both right know but I can't afford both items, I plan on rebuilding the IPR so I plan on buying the oring kit first.
Which of the two do you think is most likely to cause my rough idle and keeping it @ a given rpm?
Good question. I don't have much of a definitive answer, but I'll share what little I've experienced along these lines.
When the IPR went out in my wife's Ex, the truck had behaved similar to what you've described, but generally only when cold. Then one day it just died on me and would not start back up. My son was experiencing very simlar symptoms as my wife did, and his situation ended up being the ICP sensor. In neither case did we have erratic or rompy idle.
The only time I've seen the erratic and rompy idle was when I blew an o-ring on my oil bypass filter and lost over two gallons of oil on a 200 mile road trip, and the bad behavior was all due to low oil pressure due to low oil level. I replaced the o-ring, refilled with oil, and haven't seen those symptoms since.

May I copy the guzzle url that is in your sig and put it in mine? That is just an awesome page.

I'm hoping for the IPR only because of the cost issue and it is repairable for the most part. I also had to put out for a wheel bearing so I can't do it all this week.
Hey... I feel your pain. I've got to begin the process of proactively replacing o-rings and seals in the valley of 2 7.3's, but I just have to take it one step at a time. I'm also trying to accumulate a small collection of spare parts for those notorious items which can leave you stranded... one... step... at.... a... time.
I know I'm not the only one. Nothing has been that terrible just always at a bad time. There has been so much that has gotten done to my truck it is unreal, tires, transmission, transfer case, spare tire holder and the list goes on and on. I just hope the thing runs by the time I can afford to start working on the injection side of things.
There's lots of pictures of my adventures in this thread if any one wants to look and laugh at my expense.
