it doesnt shut off, it only shut off once and that was when i unplugged the oil pressure sensor and drove it like that to see if it smoothed out the "jump" or "catch" if you want to call it and it didnt it just was like a real dead throttle, but I pulled over and plugged in the sensor and then as I was trying to drive away it gave me no throttle at all and died. turned the key off and back on and cel went out and it started right up and ran just like it has been. and as far as how long has this been, the lack of power that started me looking into the valve cover gaskets has been for about 1500 miles but at the beginning it was on and off, it would run fine with lots of power for a coulple days then it would be bad for acouple days and sometimes for jsut afew miles it would seem down on power then about 500 miles ago it just stayed poor. the most signifigant symptoms that show steady now are 1/ white smoke on start up that goes away when warmed up. 2/ rough running at idle not missing----rpm goes up and down by a couple hundred 3/ at about 1400 rpm with being held there with throttle it developes a shake visible on engine 4/ when driving at highway speed it is down on power signifigantly 5/ when accelerating particularily from a stop it will seem like the engine is only pulling with half the power then it will instantly catch and pull hard for only a second or so then go poor again, when it does this the sound of the engine goes very loud and then very quiet. If you let it idle down when its warm it will idle just nice and smooth. But when you go to leave a stop sign or pull out it will do the catching and jumping thing its like running on half the engine and then turning be other half for just a second or so but when seems like its only running on half it is still nice and smooth just no power. thats why I checked the gaskets and all injectors ohmed good. ??????
now just to be sure Im talking about the right sensor here it is located on the drivers side head at the front, first sensor on the top on that head correct?
I dont know much about it but could it be in need of a Hutch mod??? I have not done this yet but have been thinking about it. Doesnt the mod cure a reistricted fuel flow??
will be putting a pressure gauge on the fuel bowl in morning to check fuel pressure, will try and rule that out as well I never let my truck get under 1/2 tank as the "legs" on these things is great. dont know for sure yet what the hutch mod is but will do some research to see what needs to be done
