Sounds cliche when folks get on here beyotching about they're 6.0's and the regs say "no matter the make/model.... They've all got issues" well here's proof
ALOT of y'all know I recently parted with my rig that I spent the last 6 months taking care of all the common issues (oil / EGR coolers , head gasket / studs, stumble / surge issues..... Etc.)
Well , while I search for my next truck I bought a little crap box for transportation (01 GMC Jimmy) and what do ya know my dash is lit up like a Christmas tree ..... Now I bought it knowing this but my point is this.... My ABS and parking brake lights ate on which is common and the SOP is to send the ABS module off to "Modulemasters" for a rebuild (sound familiar ? Replace with FICM / ED) . My check engine light is also on and throwing a p0410 code which is also a known / common issue.... Secondary air pump emissions deal (GM's version of Ford's EGR issue)
None of which cause any drivability issues so I may or may not fix em , but my point for the post is to let you know..... The 6.0 and Ford / NAVSTAR ain't the only game in town when it comes to certain issues / shortcomings that require attn on a VERY regular basis.... The difference is while researching if I should bother messing with the repairs there is EXACTLY ZERO forums that give the level of expertise and know how that this one does as far as taking care of the known issues!!!!!!
Oh yea..... I've also got the belt "chirp" that anyone that's ever owned a chebby would recognize.... I will be slapping a belt tensioner on it (considered a wear item .... Needed every 30k or so) cause the little birdy drives me NUTZ.... Again why doesnt GM make em tuffer instead of just expecting us to change em like the oil
Thank you for posting that. But no matter what you say, there are some that are convinced the 6.0L is the biggest mistake Ford ever made and everyone of them should be recalled. Guess no one remembers the Pinto, Corvair, GM's saddle bag fuel tanks...and then were do you start with the Dodges?

Haha.... And they may very well be right BUT.... Like you said and the point I was making are one and the same.... They (Ford) ain't the Lone Ranger by a LONG SHOT
well said guys! not to sound biased but u guys are absolutely right. every car will have its own probs. it aint perfect. we jus have to make decisions, hopefully good ones, and move on.
I am only 26, and I have learned in my short life, that every car at some point in time is going to need some repairs...anything with that many moving parts, something is going to break!! No matter the name on the car...in addition sometime, you just get a bad one. I believe the reason the 6.0 has SUCH a bad rep, is because the people with the "bad" ones scream louder than the people with good ones. For it to be so horrible, there sure are a lot of people I see with them,
I'm taking my daughters truck to town right now, because her and her fiance are pulling a trailer with my 6.0, because his Dodge with the oh-so-special Cummins is in my shop with a destroyed starter. POS starter just wasn't up to the task of repelling number 6 con rod as it exited the block.
And the next time the Dodge boys start ragging on you 6.0 guys about how hard it is to work on a 6.0, remind them that you have to pull the head or oil pan or lift the cab on the Cummins 24V to get the engine out of the truck.
Another reason for the 6.0's bad rep was Ford's half *** attempt to train their techs prior to the engines release. A lot of problems were magnified and not repaired because parts were thrown at them with out the root cause being determined.
I bought my 6.0 in 2004 new... Have reallyy hhad no problems. Only have 99K on it but still had two turbo issues, one fixed under warantee, the second becuase for a year I did not drive it much so it moisture and some rust.
My biggest complaint is this past few months whenI decided to buy a new 6.7.... And low and behold few dealers wanted it. Not because it was in bad shape in fact it is in excellent shape but the reason given .... IT IS A 6.0. Two Ford dealers said no before they even looked at it.....
Finally found a dealership and ordered a new F250 Lariat 6.7 loaded to pull our 5vr.
I now understand there were problems but I had none...
I listed mine for sale in Feb of '10 for $25k. I ordered a 2011 F450 for our buisness and figured I'd make do without a truck and use that when needed. Within a week I got 4 calls from dealers that were searching for one willing to pay asking price and come get the truck within a day. My wife convinced me to keep my '05 and I'm glad I did. That 2011 has been nothing short of outstanding with 90k miles on her already. The whole time I was talking to the saleman I was thinking what the heck kinda $$$ are they getting for the truck?

X2. That is very true...now we know what the real issues are and how to repair the motor without guessing! Mine is in for repair right now...it's a long story...if you want you can look in the Nevada Chapter January thread for all the "goings on".
That could be the issue I had. I live in a very small community in northern WI. And two of the local dalers do not have much turn over in used vehicles.
I ended buying from the third local (within 50 miles).........
I used ZAG.COM to get prices from dealers in a 250 mile radius and I used that to get a good deal from the dealer I finally chose. I was ready to travel 250 miles to get a new truck since the dealers close were unwilling to give me a reasonable deal.
