Need Help With Tire/Wheel!

Alright I just replaced my front shocks, and have noticed some problems with my tire/wheel at speeds of up to 45 going over bumps and at around 70 on the highway. These problem is kinda scary...it feels like my driver side tire/wheel is gonna come off!

I took it into a tire place yesterday to have my wheels balanced and it didn't help. The tire "Wobbles" big time and I don't know why! I don't think its the shocks at all, but that's the only new thing that I've done to the truck. The Lug nuts Are Tight, so don't suggest that I tighten them please. It's something else, that I need to get fixed. Again it "wobbles," wobbles like crazy side to side. Please Help!
Thanks!

Is it like a "shudder" feeling??
If so check your "air pressure" i just got a notice in the mail from the dealer about that the other day...

You can also jack that 1 wheel off the ground & try to move wheel to check for "play" up/down & side/side
to check your ball joints & tie rod ends...

Yeah a shutter feeling is a good way to describe it as well. I'll check the air pressure, that's a good idea, forgot that I just added some air to my tires the other day. I'll remove the wheel and see if there is anything allowing to much move, but surely that's something the tire place would've caught when they balanced the front tires right?

Well only if they decided to look but seriously lets face it guys that work at a tire shop are not mechanics so probaly not.
That mailer said to follow recommended air pressure to correct issue, says people were reducing pressure for a smoother ride but in some cases would cause a shudder.
IMO its 1 of those 2 things, if your pressure is proper & ball joints/tie rods feel tight thats all i got for now....good luck

Sounds like death wobble. How many miles do you have on the truck? It could be time to replace your steering stabilizer, or if you're running 35s or larger, upgrade to a dual setup. You'd be surprised how much a worn out steering stabilizer will affect the truck.

Have only been running 35s for hell, less than a thousand miles and I've got about 75,000 on the truck. The steering wheel doesn't react much if at all when the wheel goes crazy, but if I get up under the truck and look at the steering stabilizer it looks alright. Is there anything I should really tug on and look for when I'm under the truck? I'm gonna check the ball bearings out this weekend when I have time, since those are a blast to replace, I'll go ahead do replace them anyways, tire pressure is set correctly. And I wanna upgrade to a skyjacker stabilizer in the future, but 4x4 shop said that it wasn't really needed unless I had a four inch lift or more. Right now just running the 2.5". Thanks, I'm really gonna get under her tonight

I'm not sure what the shops logic is there. The way I understand it, lift has nothing to do with your steering stabilizer. Think if you were running a 4in lift with 285s? What's a dual stabilizer going to do for you? And compare that to your setup now of 2.5in lift with 35s. The amount of lift you have doesn't change the stress on the steering stabilizer. I'm by no means a front end expert, and I could be way off. But I know with my truck, and a lot of the .gov trucks I drive that have had hokey front end issues, pointing out the steering stabilizer was probably worn out to the maintenance guys has helped a lot of vehicles. There isn't really a way to check it without pulling it off and checking its rebound. If it is stock and you have 75K, the thing is TOAST. I promise. I know the coil sprung trucks require a lift of 2.5in or more to get a dual setup on there. I have an ICON dual setup that I love. It wasn't cheap, though. Plus I have leafs which requires less left for most, if not all dual setups.

Thanks I'll pull it out and about check it out. I'm by no means an expert either, just trying to learn as I go. I've owned a couple ford superdutys with well over a hundred thousand miles and never had any problems with the steering stabilizer, also never had a lift on them, so that's why it wasn't my first guess. Thanks alot I'll check it out

Were you just having issues with one wheel? I would think that it would affect both. The steering wheel doesn't go crazy when the wheel goes nuts and I would think it would. Then again I'm no expert lol.

Critter, I only have a 2.5" lift. Many aftermarket stabilizers, like rancho and skyjacker duals, make the stabilizers for a 4" plus. Wouldn't be a big deal to go ahead and get the ones made for the 4"? They'll function just as well and fit?

Thanks a lot man. I've just removed the tire and I'm checking things out. Not quite sure what all I'm looking at, but that's what a few good friends are for and youtube!

Ok, pretty Sure it's the, "death wobble" after watching you tube videos, though I believe it's only on one side, thing is I've heard a hundred different things that could cause it. Tracbar dampner, track bar, steering stabilizer, bushing stuff, ext...heard to just get the doubler steering stabilizer and it fixes it, or replace the damperners, thing is they look fine. Any comment?
