Im currently looking at a 95 F250 351/auto. The truck has 207k on it and no idea if the trans has ever had any work or been replaced.
Upon test driving i noticed any time you would put it to the floor it just would not kick down and go. So test it further I took it outside of town where there are some nice steep grades and when going up the hill it would not down shift n go. You could almost feel it hesitating or sorta jerking like it was fighting its self to get up the hill but would do so even on flat surfaces.
In town driving and normal pace everything shifts fine etc.... going down the highway without putting it to the floor it shift fine.
I know these trannys are known for issues but just wondering if the symptoms are familiar? There is no flashing OD light and no CE lights illuminated.
Im just wondering if its more than likely the trans or if its possable its another issue somewhat related. This isnt pushed me away from still wanting the truck as I have no problems doing the work and even putting a trans in if need be.
no it shifts into gears nice n smooth even the occasional time it does down shift and go. yeah I may have to to see about another test drive and scan it. Then again since I actually like the truck enough and the price is pretty fair i may take my chances and expect the worse case scenario that itll need a trans.
Just to me...it sounds more like a communication problem in the electronics. I doubt a tranny swap would be needed. The right troubleshooting may lead to an easy fix.
I was able to scan it tonight and the codes I got were
172, 116, 636, 114, 111
All codes were KOEO and the truck was cold.
I did take it out tonight on an open road and took off from a dead stop and put the pedal to the floor and it climbed it RPMs and finally shifted and it did shift a little hard. Then after it shifted you could feel the jerking it was doing while accelerating.
With my AOD in my F150 it has about 110,000 miles on it since the last time it got rebuilt but for it to shift some times (down or up) I have to treat it like a manual (I guess shes gettin a bit worn). My E4OD in my F250 started doing some of the same things you said. I wish I could help more but I put in a ZF in the 250 instead of messin with the E4.
Before you start testing things like a headless chicken check the throttle cable, if it's messed up the tranny won't react fast enough.
Yeah im a check that and I have a good feeling it needs a T/P sensor as ive noticed the last few days of driving it depending on where the pedal it it starts bucking and doing some of the other sypmtoms ive described.
Ive just not had time to really look at it. So I get the cable checked and T/P changed out ill report the outcome.
