i have a 01 e 250 gas with auto trans just today trans started slipping to nuetral on the upshift from stop then would go into o/d. but if you gas it some it will shift into 3rd then to o/d just fine also if you floor it while drive will drop to 2nd then hit 3rd then o/d just fine only seems to act up from dead stop any ideas???
let me explain a little better. it shifts fine from 1 to 2 then searches for 3 but ends up in to o/d.now i noticed o/d light flashing all the time and really has hard time shifting past 2nd . could it be something simpple or is trans toast. also do these get rebuilt or replaced which is better???????????????
First thing to do is check for codes.
Next quick thing to do is check electrical connections to the trans.
What trans is it?
It could also be anything from a bad solenoid to internal leaks. The last requires complete dissasembly.
Rebuilt or replace, its kinda one and the same less your getting a factory new unit.
Its all a cost deal.
havent checked codes yet and not really sure what trans i have how can i tell???? the van is 2000 with 5.4 triton motor if that helps. seems to be electrical issue i believe some times it seems to shift right and other times hits nuetral after 2nd then finally goes right to o/d but if you give it a little gas it drops right into 3rd like its suppose to.
To find out which trans you have find the blue tag in the driver's door opening. Under "TR" there will be either a "U" or an "E." "U" means 4R70W and "E" means 4R100.
Hey Mark thanks after checking I have the U model or 4R70W. Im guessing rebuild is in my future any sugestions on where to take it I see your in MI also .need to get it fixed its hauls my ladders for work
