crank no start questions

alright heres what happened. had a cracked block on my old motor so i bought a new motor with 102k on it. truck was crushed by a tree so previous owner pulled engine with care. all the wiring, fuel lines, hoses. i mean everything. engine came out of a 2002 SD. my truck is a 2000 SD. engines were the same.engine sat for 6 months i was told covered in a pole barn. so i get the motor buttoned up and ready to fire. set the glow plugs and it fires up and idles like it was never shut off. ran it to operating temp and topped off fluids, checked for leaks. awesome. ran truck about 35 miles home that night with no issues other then an inop temp gauge. (hoping just the sensor is bad). in the morning i went out set the GPs and about 10 sec of cranking or less it fired up. cool. drove around a bit dropped off some parts to a friend and shut the truck off and it fired right back up when i went to leave. getting low on fuel so i stopped at a local station and put about 25 bucks in the tank just to get me by which gave me a 1/2 tank of fuel total in the tank. after i got to my destination about 35 more miles of driving i let the truck sit for a few hours and went to go get some supplies. got out there and had to cycle the key about 5-6 times and crank for about 20 seconds each time before i finally started. even if it sits for 5-10 minutes it takes longer then normal to fire even when at operating temp. today went out and all i have now is crank but no start.

its registering rpms on the tac, the dash lights up like normal, no blown fuses. im at a loss right now. ive looked through a ton of the threads on here and cant find anything with the location of some of the sensors. temp sensor for the gauge, high oil pressure sensor, low oil pressure sensor, injector control pressure sensor, sensors of that nature.

any help would be greatly appreciated

also any tips on how to safely remove my bully dog tuner would be great it works but i dont want it because i dont know what it changes and how its effecting my motor.

thank you.

My 99 7.3 has been running rough. Sometimes it runs great then seems like it is not getting fuel especially going up hills. It would start to chatter i would back off the pedal and it would crawl but not chatter. Then it would run fine. The fuel is definetly not gelled right now. Bowl full of fuel. No white smoke or fuel smell coming out exhaust. It had a rough idle after running fine for an hour. pulled into parking lot noe wont start. could it be sensor in front of fuel bowl, wire is frayed? How do you check high oil pressure for injectors?
Thanks, Bruce

Hey short bus, Welcome to fte...Start a new thread and it will net u a lot more responses.

How much fuel is in it? Does it have a wait to start light? You may have the screens in the fuel tank stopping up. That kinds what it sounds like.

Other thing is how is your oil level?

Did you use the engine wiring harness from the new motor? If so, take it out and put the wiring harness from your old motor back in there.

There are a few changes in wiring harnesses from 2000 to the 2002.

Shortbus.......That may work but if not, click on 7.3 forum and and look above where it lists all the threads. Right at the top of the column that has all the threads on the left side is a button that says new thread. Type a basic description like "truck runs out of fuel uphill" or something like that. By typing a description of that sort, the guys that know will look at it and read it. Some guys are electrical guys, some suspension, some engine, and some transmission.
