Well As some of you remeber i had a post a couple of months ago about my truck not starting. Well it happened again. I have traced it down to too much voltage going to the plugs or its getting to much fuel. Last time i changed plugs and it fired right up. I'm hoping it does the same thing tommorrow. Anyway, is there away to measure how much the coil is putting out and how much should the coil be putting out? Fuel pressure at the rail is 65 psi. Somewhere some how my plugs are getting fouled out and its causing the truck to not start. I had the truck running before and it was running awful, so i shut it off went inside and it cranks fine, fires like its gonna start, but wont start up. The engine temp sensor does not work anymore, could that have something to do with it? The 02 sensor is gone, but that wouldn't cause it to not start.
For your 1987 Ford Truck F150 1/2 ton P/U Fuel System Pressure 35-45 PSI(Pounds per Square Inch) with ignition switch in on position or with engine running. You need to check out your fuel pressure regulator.

i'll add the fuel regulator as something that needs to to be checked out.
Your fuel pressure is too high as it should only be 45psi. When you say the temp sensor doesn't work anymore are you referring to the one that feeds the dash guage or the one that feeds the EEC? If your temp sensor for the EEC is not working the motor will run rich because the EEC thinks that it is "cold" - this will definitley cause your plugs to foul. The O2 sensor is not required to start the motor. You do need it though to let the EEC tell the motor when to run in proper modes, again if it doesn't get a signal it will continually run the motor in a rich condition similar to a "limp home" mode.
the engine temp gauge doesn't work, so i figured it was the sensor, but i never thought that the computer wasn't getting a signal. Is there a different sensor that gives the computer a reading or is it just one sensor giving the gauge and computer a reading. The o2 sensor is sitting in the console in my truck because i'm waiting to redo the exhaust before i put it in. When i got the truck the exhaust had been modified and there was no hole for the 02 sensor.
Start with finding the cause of the high fuel pressure. Look at the fuel pressure regulator, remove the vacuum line and see if there is fuel in it , the fuel return line to the tank if pinched can cause high pressure.

it runs, but you can definately tell that its getting way to much fuel. After letting her warm up it idled a lil better but not much. My dad also said that the IAC maybe bad, which is causing it to not idle properly. I'll check the fuel regulator after diner.
I can't say for sure on your year rig. On my '91 there are 2 temp. sending units. One is a 1 wire job that sits on top on the motor just behind and to the right of the distributor, right close to one of the front fuel injectors (drivers side) - this is the one that sends signal to your temperatur guage on the dash cluster. The other is a two wire unit that is screwed into the water tower that sits on top of the block and feeds the upper heater hose, the throttle body warming system and the EEC. If you can't find the right part let me know and I'll try to shoot a pic. for you.

i knew about the one to the right of the distributor, i will have to look for the second one. If you do get a chance go ahead and take that pic, if you don't have time don't worry about it.
