When I ordered the white oak for my F2 stake bed , I ordered 8 quarter thickness , 6'' wide , and 8 ' long . It will plane down to the proper thickness and allow you to trim the ends if there is end checking .For the bed , 5 quarter 8" wide works great .
Raytasch, I guess I am. That cutout with the 'hook thing' in it.... Any Northwest guys, I have a sawmill and am gonna be sawing some doug fir for my flatbed soon. 5/4 means an inch and a quarter rough. I'll plane it to specs. and rip to whatever you want. Very similar to Henry's yellow pine. Most people use oak today, but that's wrong too. As I'm a cabinet maker, I can mill the correct profile for the bed strips too.. I'll be easy on you because I love doing this stuff.........
