Hi and welcome to FTE. There are a few companies that sell the planks - MAR-K is the first that comes to mind but there are others. What's affordable is kind of up to you. I'll leave their link below.

You need to check you dimensions though. There's no 55 foot long bed and there's no 55 inch long bed. The 8 Ft. Express Box on the 48-52 is 54" wide???!!!???

Or might that be a '55 long bed (as in 1955 long bed like an F-250), as opposed to a 55' long bed (as in 55 foot-long bed)?

What model and year truck is this?

Sorry, I just noticed the error.

It's a 1955 with a long bed
what I'm looking for is a sort of diagram not of the bed itself but of the wood planks.
I need the sizing so I can make one on my own.

Thanks for the reply!

This one may be a little easier to read. I'm not sure if it's for an 8' Express Box or a 6 1/2 " Pick-up box. You can probably do the math to see if you have to add an extra plank with the wider Express Box, or just make the same number of planks wider.

And there are some measurements in this thread:

I'm new to the forum too. I'm looking at picking up a '56 Long bed also. It looks like the 2 outside boards have to be cut around the wheel wells. I've been trying to find a kit but so far no luck finding a long bed wood kit. I've got all the tools to make it myself, I just need the metal strips. Anyone know where to get them?

Wow...you dug up an old thread.

Here's a supplier....I think he may be the supplier for some of the classic truck parts shops with bed wood: Ford Bed Wood

They do have a listing for long bed strips as well.

If you're good at woodworking, the planks aren't rocket science, but they do have a rabbit cut on the edges. You could replicate that with a router, but the cut is angled to shed water.

If you call Northern Classics, he might also cut some long bed strips for you.

Oh...and welcome to the forum!

Thanks Dan. I'm an Old Guy so old articles are my thing. Thanks for the info on the supplier. They do have the long bed strips, in all kinds of shiny metals, with bolts that show and hidden bolts. It also appears that the left and right side wood strips go under the flange on either bed side. I'll just have to make a template for the curve and cut that out.

Any thoughts on a tilt front end? The guy who is selling the truck also has a short bed that was converted into a trailer. He's including that but I think all the work necessary to install the short bed, cutting the frame and such, is way more than I want to do.

Were the sides supposed to be notched, grooved or notched and grooved originally?

I've seen al 3 before but want to know how Ford intended them.
Also was the wood up higher or level to the rear of the box?
