Welcome to the forum. I remember seeing them on quite a few years. Perhaps the bump will get you some more answers. My '56 F350 has the 9 foot script bed.
Welcome to FTE. Its good to have another 54 trucker here. I am not sure of the total years of the Ford Script bed, but I know that all the truck years in this forum (48-56) came with the Ford script beds if they came from the factory with them. A lot of flatbeds were added by outside rebuilders or outfitters. When was the script bed first used and when did they stop production? I don't know.
There is a guy here that foes by the handle "Number Dummy". Bill may be along later and answer your history question. I know there weren't too many F-100 stakebeds made...
I know when I was looking for mine that the F-1 and F100 (48 thru 56) were the same. The f-1s had a steel inner splash shield of sorts. Finding one with the spare tire rack intact is pretty rare too.
I looked for about a year to find a decent 7' short bed ( 3 site stake pockets not 4 ) for my '55. When I finally found one that was serviceable (off an F100, the very next week i found another off a 50 with the inner splash guards and the correct u shaped bolts.

The illustration of the Stake Bed parts in the 1957/63 Ford truck parts catalog, shows block FORD letters on the rear sill panel. So, I assume the changeover from script occurred in 1957.
Ford has offered factory installed Platforms (Flat Beds) and Platform & Racks (Stake Beds) from the 1920's thru today.
But you will see non Ford beds of these types, because they're also available from the aftermarket sector.
I am interested to know if yours has a cut out for the spare tire? The bracketry looks factory where the back of the frame attaches to the bed and is different from the other side?? I found it wierd. It is a script bed, I will try to get some pictures posted later.
