Good afternoon guys, so my 450 is in the shop with a oil leak . Wev figured out what the oil leak is so im not worried about that , but while the truck was on ther the mechanice noticed that insted pf a propper gpr on it it had just a starter solinoide on it. So the glow plugs wher on when the truck was running all the time. But some how the gp's survivied. He told me that ther is a chance i cooked my PCM threw the solidoide. The truck does run tho. I saw and herd it idleing really well yesterday. So do u guys think ill have an issue
The only thing "cooked" is that story. Good on him for finding the wrong relay, and indeed it would be energized at all times with the key in RUN. But actually, the most likely long-term effect is that the relay itself is probably cooked, and is thus no longer energizing the glow plugs, which would explain why the plugs themselves aren't cooked.
When you're runnin' down the road, where does the voltmeter point?
BTW, this would be an opportune time to upgrade to a Stancor 586-902 heavy-duty relay for the GPR.
I found out some thing was funny when it was charging at 11.8 So naturaly i bought a new altenator. Oooops. It still wouldnt charge. I got a deal on a brand new alt tho. 130$ so i Used a volt meter and found out they wher allways on. So i dissconected them. And aan hour later i found the oil leak
Not at all I see no need to go messing with the PCM. The only way I know to "RESET" a PCM is to disconnect the batteries for a few or if they can and most shops can't is to reflash the PCM. I would tell them NOT to mess with the PCM

If the PCM was cooked, then it wouldnt run. You wouldnt even get a WTS light. So thats BS. And reset the PCM?
