what is a realistic price range for rebuilding a e40d transmission in a 90 f250 with a 460?

These things are expensive to rebuild. I have been told that you can get a Jasper rebuild with a three year warranty for around $1800, but I can't confirm that myself. I have heard other that have paid anywhere from $2,000 for a stock rebuild to upwards of $4,500 for a BTS diesel trans that is guaranteed for life with no questions asked.

Just make sure you really need a rebuild before paying big prices..

Is the fluid black, and smelled burned?

The E4od is completely computer controlled, so if the oil looks and smells good, be sure to run diagnostics and see if there are any trouble codes.. Something as simple as a throttle position sensor or other seemingly "simple" little problems can drive the E4OD nuts.. I've seen them replaced and still have the same problem with the new trans due to other problems..

I had our tranny rebuild while the engine was being replaced.
We paid around 2200.00, but our prices are a little high here.

What are your problems with your truck?

Just got mine done for 1850 for the rebuild. Thats not counting my upgrades I had done.

Like already said the sensors and and electrical crap with them are a BIG PITA!!!
