Call a local transmission shop and get a quote.
Costs vary greatly and are local. "Hard" parts costs vary with each rebuild, depending on failure, so any price someone else paid is pretty much irrelevant since you don't have any way of knowing what needs replacing in your unit.
If in doubt, just buy a re-manufactured unit with a good warranty.

It cost me 1200.00 twice within 3 years for my "92 4x4, if I were you I think I'd go with the remanufactured. As I stated this is the second time and the trans looses its prime after setting a couple days and i'm 2 1/2 years into my second rebuild. These were supposed to be reputable shops in my area also.
