Oil Usage

Just wondering how much oil loss/usage, if any, is considered normal. Bought my 2000 f350 new and after first few oil changes switched to full synthetic. My 2002 Ex had 112k on it when I got it. Both seem to use about 2qts. per 5k on Amsoil 15w-40. I'm changing it at 10k intervals. Not finding any major exterior leaks on either so I'm assuming most of it is being burned. The Ex is mostly driven as a people hauler. The f350 pulls a landscape trailer (6000lbs.) and pushes a plow.

I use 1 quart in 5000 miles. Thats when I change mine, I use 15-40 rotella T. Do you use amsoil filter to. If not I would change the filter at 5K. I don't think you're doing bad, a lot of guys use 2 quarts at 5k, I don't know about amsoil though.

I was using almost a qt in 5000 miles on Rotella 15/40
I have fixed a leak I had, and am hoping for less now.

165000 miles on truck

My 03 has been using about a qrt 1/2 in 10,000 miles on amsoil 15w40, less with the series 3000 oil. running amsoil for 10 years, I'd say what your using is normal, I think i lose most of mine with the CCV mod. JMOP.

I been using Delo for years and have always been a quart low at oil change time.

A friend of mine suggest I use the red bottle Motorcraft found at walmart. Says he doesn't burn any oil with it but is always a quart low with Delo. I just switched both my 7.3 and 6.0 to Motorcraft. We'll see if she burns a quart in 5000 miles.

Had used Rotella synthetic and Napa gold filters for a few years with what seemed to be a little less usage. I had been changing it every 5k. After reading up on stats seemed the Amsoil was quite a bit better. That and I have a friend that sells it to me at cost (still not cheap). So I've been springing for the more expensive Amsoil but am running it longer, so in the end it cost less.

Yes. I'm using an Amsoil filter as well. Filter states 28k between changes, so I was hoping to go at least 10-15k between changes, assuming the 28k is based on all highway driving, without any additional loads or demands. I've never like to push things as far as manufacturers state. As I've found many times before, it still no guarantee that you'll be problem free.
