Weekend Mods Planned

Well I'm tired of looking at my new goodies and I'm going to take advantage of the nice weather on Sat and do a few mods. This is what I have planned.

Going to be pulling almost everything from the valley.

SD HPOP upgrade, thanks to diesel-fitter-bum01 for the hookup from the SD forum.

Pull the turbo to gut the EBPV and new pedestal o rings.

Install my DP and cat delete pipe. I will also be building my own 4" exhaust after the cat delete, provided all my parts from ebay show up on time. I'll snap pics and give parts used if anyone wants to build they're own exhaust on the cheap. This isn't going to be fancy, just turned out before the rear tire.

New gauges will have to wait for another time as I'm sure this will keep me more than busy.

This will be my first turbo and HPOP R&R so wish me luck!

Good luck Todd! You will be very busy to get all that done unless you have help. It took me most of a day the first time I did the hpop. Second time was under half the time as I knew what I was doing.

You doing the pedestal delete of the ebpv also? You're going to want to if you don't have it planned by the time you get that one damn bolt out...

I plan on putting my new goodies in as well. I just got my 3 in dp in the mail waiting on my 6637 from riffraff. Then my 4 to 5in adapter to finish up my exhaust.

Thanks guys!

As of right now I just have a pipe plug going in it, but my boss (whos shop I'm doing this in) just bought a spool gun so....I can't decide yet. I'm pretty good with steel, but never welded aluminum, I heard it can get tricky

Those spool guns are pretty hard on stuff. Do practice on something else before you go at it.

The down pipes are are a tricky install. It takes all kinds of wiggling turning and finessing to get them. However, as soon as you let go of it they fall right out like there was a clear path a mile wide for them to travel through.

The turbo is a biyatch to get the bolts out of. Plan on making a wrench that will be just for that.

It's going to be a long day, possibly weekend. I plan on practicing if I go that route.

So you just grind off the actuator rod housing, cap and weld the 2 ends? This doesn't interfere with oil supply at all?

No the oil supply comes into the pedastal from the bottom via some holes with O rings directly below the turbo. You need to be sure you get the o rings in there correctly when you go back with it or it will leak. You dont want the holes obstructed either or it will burn the turbo up. Get some new o rings before you jump off into it too.

Also the EBPV helps the motor to warm up quicker in the winter. I installed a EBPV delete pedastal on mine b/c I was changing the turbo to a D66 anyways. So I had my custom tunes equipped with a high idle feature for cold weather.

As far as the DP, use a porta power. On the pedestal use a 1/4" extension with a swivel on the back drivers side bolt. I call it a fishing job, you have to go blind while you hunt for the bolt. I got ahold of it once and couldn't reach the rachet. I refused to let go and pulled my cell out and called my wife. She came out and asked what I wanted, she saved the day. LOL

Priceless Glenn. I have pedestal o rings, ipr o rings and HPOP o rings coming hopefully tomorrow.

Getting a porta power on fri. I believe I have everything lined up to tackle this, but you never know.

Just getting excited to finally let that bad boy breathe and to hear the turbo!

There isnt much to it other than being a contortionist. Make sure the pipe is in the clamp well when you tighten it to the turbo. The 3-3 1/2" dp's barely fit in there . I wouldnt reccomend trying the 4". If you have the ZF5 there is an ear on the front half of the case that gets in the way sometimes. If need be you can cut it off with a grinder. Some people take the foil heat shield off of the firewall to gain an inch or so of clearance. Some people beat the firewall with a hammer to get what they need. However, you have to get the DP installed or all other mods are useless until that and the intake are done.
