Talking 2003 Expedition Side Mirror Lamp Replacement

I searched for a while to learn how to get the turn signal/puddle lamp assembly off the side mirrors, but never got the full picture. I finally succeeded, so I took a few pictures for anyone interested. First, move the mirror forward out of the detent. It will expose a screw. Use a T-10 driver to remove it.

Push at top of mirror to expose behind the bottom of mirror. Use screwdriver to push clip to unlock it. The clip is seen better in next picture.

Lamp sockets are removed by ~quarter turn CCW. Don't be surprised to see the lamp assembly is deformed. The hole could be elongated. I had to squeeze it back 'toward round' to get the bulb out. I trimmed the hole a little to easily get the bulb back. Start the assembly at an angle to reinstall, press clip in, and install screw.

It was very easy-- the second time. I got some valuable experience on getting the mirror glass off and getting to the motors.

This should be the same as the F-Series.

socket

I am having a similar problem. I took it apart except my socket that holds the bulb is broken. Where do i find a new 2 wire socket connector for the little courtesy light. I dont have turn signal mirrors but it looks the same. I am also thinking about switching to signal mirrors just by adding the amber module picture if i can find it.

It's a standard 921 bulb (high output) or 916 (standard output). You can get them at Walmart or AutoZone, or any other autoparts store My lens were kinda worn out and had algae in 'em so I picked up a set of the clear Navigator lens online and installed appropriate LEDs in place of the regular bulbs. You can get the LED's from SuperBrightLEDs 194 base LEDs . They are a bit brighter and run much cooler.

Any ideas on replacement of the amber lens? Does it require a whole assembly? My drivers side lens is cracked so it lets in a bunch of water and molds so it looks just horrible.

You can buy a replacement factory lens online here:Ford Parts Online for about $50. Or you can find a clear lens on ebay and just put an amber LED/bulb in the turn signal socket, and a clear LED/bulb in the courtesy light socket ( this is what I did...). Or you can buy a complete replacement amber lens from the dealer (probably about the same price...). Or you can buy the complete mirror assembly off ebay or the dealer for a bit more money.
