Metal fuel line quick fix ????
Metal fuel line quick fix ????
I have a 1985 F-250 6.9 w/ C6 AT. Coming home from work, I noticed a severe fuel leak. Upon opening the hood, fuel was everywhere. After limping home and degrease the whole engine, I started searching for the leak. To my surprise I found that injector line #4 was leaking at the IP. I checked to see if it was loose. I found it to be nice and tight, I started to disassemble the line to further inspect. When I slid the nut up the line to get a better view, the flared end dropped to the top of the block. It was sheared completely off. This is my daily driver and need to fix asap. My question is, can you form a temporary line from Brake/Fuel line and a flaring tool ? If anyone knows of a quick fix for this, it would be greatly appreciated. Replacement parts will take 7 days to get.
Those lines are thicker than regular brake/fuel line. There isn't really a quick fix other than getting the correct replacement line. Also, each line is precisely the same length (which is why some have strange crazy bends) as the length affects the timing.
Call up your local junkyards and see if you can find the line.

First off welcome to FTE I see you just joined, anyway if the junkyard is no help, heres a place to get a new line. Is always nice to have a backup plan

I would agree with the above posts but you should check the other lines to be sure that they are not about to do the same thing. The other thing is why did that line break like that ? that is not a common occurrence. I don't know any quick fixes either and i have raised more questions than answers. If you can find the answers they will save you more head aches later.

You wont flare that line, and I bet some of the dampening clamps are missing. An injector shop may have a repair nut and ball fitting for it.

Thanks for the welcome Guys. The brake/fuel line was a thought to temporarily band aid the the problem just till the proper part was found. I have worked with this type of line before, but don't quit know its limitations. I have ordered the part from the suggested parts warehouse (Thanks) and have a complete set on watch at Ebay. The problem is time, really need to get the truck on the road if only temporary. Thanks for the help.........!
P.S. I was aware of the tuned length, but thanks for the back up.
