A metal fuel line on my engine is leaking (rusted through). I believe it runs down the engine from the FPR to a braided stainless hose by the drivers front wheel well. It is the 5/16" return line. The other line right alongside it is the 3/8" supply line which I believe runs to the fuel pump. Are these metal line available from International or Ford or will they have to be custom bent from lineal stock? If I would have to make them, does anyone know what kind of flare is on the end where the braided stainles hose hooks on? Thanks
If you don't get the fuel lines they can be repaired. Use double flares on all the connections. It's not too hard to do. You may need to remove the entire line if you can't get the cutter/flaring tool on it.
I considered bending my own but if they have a flare other than a single or double flare I don't have the equipment to make it. I'm not sure if they have a bubble flare or something like that.
I am curious about what it will take to pull them and also about how much they cost and where you bought them. Thanks.
Bought them at the dealership, the total came to about $75-$80. Not cheap, but not real bad I guess. Had to take the turbo y-pipe intake off, probably the FPR, unplugged some sensors, unbolted and moved to bracket that holds: ac compressor, vacuum pump, power steering pump. Might have to undo a braided high pressure oil line. Maybe more, I haven't got the lines to come off yet! There is a cylindrical object that runs along the block down on the drivers side; not sure what it is yet, but that might have to come off too.
Since the fuel system is took apart, and if I have to disconnect a high pressure oil line, what will I need to do to bleed these systems? If anything? Or do you just hook it all up and crank?
That cylinder is the oil cooler from what I understand what you are saying If you take that loose you are tapping into the LP oil system and the cooling system at the same time. Be sure to drain both if you go that far.
If you open the HPO system plan on driving alot of miles before it works out the air maybe a hundred or so.
I finally got the new lines in last night! Among from my previous list, I removed the fuel filter housing and the air intake tube. Didn't have to remove the oil cooler. That would have been a PITA! The lines sort of wrap under the oil cooler, so I started the install by getting that bent end down around the cooler with the line horizontal down around the engine, then I rotated it up the side of the engine (using the bend around the oil cooler as my pivot point). While rotating up I had to remove the air intake tube as well as the bracket that holds the valve cover breather assembly. Now it's time to put everything else back together!
So does anyone else have anymore tips on bleeding the HPO or fuel system?
