Fuel Line Leaking.... Quick Help, Please

OK, so my 2000 7.3 is pissing fuel from the supply line that connects the bowl and the soft line to the pump. (Ford 9J338). Problem is that it only comes as a unit (both supply and return) and the stupid thing costs $130.

Can I or has anyone taken diesel rated rubber fuel line and replaced this section of hard line? Sure looks like a nightmare to replace the lines and rubber line obviously saves about $120.

Need to get this done ASAP. HELP!!!!

Not the O-ring, it is leaking right before the connector to the flex line.

Other issue is which end (male/female) is the hard line at the flex connector?

I am hoping the hard line is the female (receiving) end as I can then take a repair coupler, snap it onto the flex line that goes over the frame and splice in a FI hose going to the fuel bowl.

Anyone know before I unclip the hose and make a mess with the fuel that comes out?

** Actually Ron, in thinking that you have a line handy, can you look at it and post up?**

From: Rio Rico, AZ.
I used fuel injection rated line to get rid of all those quick connects on my truck.
You need to flare the end of the line so there is a shoulder for the clamp to grab.
FI rated line is expensive, 10 feet cost me $50.00 at NAPA.

Yeah, I crawled under there and it goes the wrong way. The hard line is the male (with flange) and the flex is the female.

I think I will just cut the line near the bowl and run a FI R9 line all the way to the rail side pump for now. When I get some time down the road, I will change it all.

The stupid thing is that on the output of the pump it is 5/16 line, then after the flex and up to the bowl it is 3/8. Why in the world would they do that????? If there is only a 5/16 coming out of the pump, it will never deliver more fuel than the 5/16 line is capable of. Why step up a size at the bowl? Makes zero sense.

.
Very good point and one that I had thought about already, but thank you.

I am going to run the rubber right out of the short hard line on the pump which already has a flare due to the quick connect, then I will flare near the bowl where I will re-attach the rubber line.
