Want good brakes, good price, BUT trying for Made in USA...

But of course, we all know the elephant in the room with Made in the USA...

Everything is stock on my 2001 Limited Gas Excursion 4x4... The brakes suck. They are all the way to the floor, and with 55,000 I'm fine with replacing.

The ones almost all discussions end up with that I've hunted down are "PowerStop" as in this URL. The complaints are that even at $200/axle, they are cheap and made in China.

I've seen brakes for my truck at $2000 to $4000/axle, and was wondering if there was something in the under $1,000USD range that was made in the USA (for all 2 aaxles)?

There has to be some sanity out there, right?

TIA!

Power Slot Cryo Brake Rotors - Frozen Rotors

I put these on my WRX with Hawk HP pads. It was a good investment considering how hard I drive that car. When I have to do brakes on my Ex, it's getting these.

Power slots and hawks. Best investment you will ever make. after driving on them for a month or so I had to do a hard stop and it almost went thru the windshield they stopped so fast.

Super easy to do on a 4x4. I have an air compressor so I invested $19 on an impact wrench from Lowes. The wheels and brake calipers came right off with no stress.

This is fantastic.

I noticed that this site didn't have calipers. If I have a mushy pedal with a lot of travel, and want it stiff like my cars, should calipers be a concern, or are the stock ones above suspicion?

Everything is 100% stock, as purchased, 10 years ago. Only repairs have been made, and no transformations/customizations. I added 5 Motorcraft Courser MSR 265/75R16Es yesterday, and want to get the mush out of my 10 year old, 55k mile brakes. Also, the vehicle has never towed anything.

All I want are stiff brakes and superior performance in Ice/Snow...

TIA!

Replacing that 10 year old brake fluid will work wonders on your brake pedal feel.

Wow. Excellent brakes, pretty pricey (~190/wheel for discs). I was hoping on around $600-$700 for the set to get done.

But I noticed no calipers. Are stock calipers OK to keep in? And also, can I buy a complete brake kit set for cheaper than the components added up, or am I better 'piece mealing'?

I went with Raybestos advanced technology rotors and EBC yellowstuff pads. Did a lot of reading and emailing before the decision. Hoping to put them on this month. Will let you know how they work out. The pads get big ratings with those that have them.

Very, VERY happy with the cryo treated Powerslots and Hawk LTS pads, but the next time the Ex needs brakes (coming up probably this year) I think I'm probably gonna go with this exact setup, so make sure you update your brake thread after you get a few thousand miles on the rotors!

As far as pads, give these guys a look: Carbotech Performance Brakes

Back when I was looking for some front brake pads, I had a few conversations with the guys from there (that's right, I spoke with an actual person) and the customer service was great. Give them a call and explain to them exactly what you need and they will get it for you. The only reason I didn't order from them was because they didn't have Excursion specific pads and I couldn't wait for them to produce them.
