np 435 speedometer Question

Hope every one had a merry christmas.
I bought an np435 4speed from a 70s f-250 for my 66 f-250, but there is no hole in the tailshaft housing for the speedometer cable. any thoughts?

It's probably out of a 4X4. Are the tail shafts the safe? If so, swap the housings. If not, Swap the tail shafts and the housings.

4x4 trans. You need a two wheel drive transmission.

Speed o outlet is in the T case.

The speedo cable should attach at the driver side on the tailshaft housing...
Theres no differentiation between 2 and 4WD NP435 trans...only truck model/driveshaft attachment as far as F100/250 trucks are concerned...On the PTO cover on the RH side there should be an aluminum tag held on by 2 bolts...post the tag info and the truck it was in originally can be determined.

Correctamundo...but, there is a difference in the extension (tailshaft) housings.
Illustration Section 70, Page 4. Look at upper left corner...notice the 4WD extension housing, location of 17260 (cable) & 17271 (driven gear).

I didnt see any notation in the illus. re 4 or 2WD.....the difference I saw that caught my eye was the the slip yoke type tail design and the bolt on driveshaft attachment...

Gee whiz...didn't you notice the transfer case rubber insulators, shift lever and other misc parts?

How about the caption: Transfer Case Shift Control and Supports-FOUR WHEEL DRIVE 1967/72 F250

Me thinks your eyes are bloodshot after squinting at that F350 VIN's 'P' assembly plant code w/a magnifying glass. Maybe you also had a bit too much X-mas libation.

Don.

My NP435 has no provision for a speedometer cable hookup. My DANA 24 transfer case has the output.

The come either or as the NP453 four wheel drive end section has the bosses for the shift lever.

I agree with Garbz the speedo cable comes out of the TFC. In the early model 65 and 66 there are big difference between 2wd and 4wd in the np435 at least the two Im eyeballing on my garage floor. The 2wd has no provision on the outer case for the shifter for the TFC. What year TFC and Np435 are you talking about in this statement? If it is later model then I am not sure but if 60s then there are differences. This may be moot since Bill added his expertise. Just an FYI for you then on the 65f100andF250 4wd and 66 F250 4wd. And in the 65 100 &250 4wd the shift tower is different. 2wd shift tower will not clear the TFC shifter in a np435 4wd truck. Ask me how I know.
