ZF transmission question

I just got a ZF 5 speed for my truck a 84 F-150 300 6cyl. i found a threaded bolt and plate where i need to connect the speedo cable how do i remove that plug to mount the speedo cable? I hope someone can answer this question as i'm planning on installing the tranny over the weekend of the 4th if i can figure everything out. thanks

There may not be a speedo drive gear on the output shaft anyhow. Late model trucks use the rear end speed sensor for speed signal.

im gonna be doin the same type o swap. man, were outta luck. the speedo will have to be the tach, if u have one. if not, just pray a cop dont get behind u n follow ya.

What year is the ZF? The 92 and newer ones supposedly don't have speedo cable provision, although I hadn't heard of a cover over the speedo cable hole before, but maybe you need to pull that plate off and shine a flashlight inside to see if there is a drive gear in there.

Many transmissions and transfer cases had the hole already in the case or extension housing, Ford put plastic plugs in the holes so they could still use existing housings on later model trucks with no need for speedo cable or sensor.
