I am seriously considering the DUI distributor for my '86 Bronco project, as it will have a Painless Wiring harness.
the main reason I am thinking about the DUI is to keep the wiring to a minimum in the engine compartment, all you need is the 1 wire to the dist, and the tach wire. Beats the heck out of all of the Duraspark wiring, module, and coil, but at a substantially higher price
I used to work with a guy who had the DUI dist. on his 71 mustang with the 302, and he loved it.
It's a nice piece but a lot of money for not much performance vs. a well-functioning DSII system. If you're only interested in the one-wire connection get a points dizzy and swap in a Pertronix or equivalent module for less than 1/2 the cost. Or run points.
I believe the site is www.gofast4less.com Go there and the guy tells you how to make your own DUI system for a fraction of the price; and I mean for a very small amount. The Davis system is a gm 4 prong module with a coil on the dizzy, nothing more.
Buy a couple of the 4 pin modules at the j/y, get an aftermarket hot coil, and hook them up as per the instructions on the site, save a bunch of $$, and have a module to spare!!
I had one, it was ok, but not much of an improvement over what I had.
I previously had a DSII HO system, basically a standard DSII module and distributor, but running an EECIV coil, and no resistor. Current to everything was switched through a relay on the fenderwell, and I ran it for about a year before going to the DUI. The only problem I had was when I first installed it, I accidentally left the switch on with the engine off, and melted the epoxy out of the DSII module. After I replaced the module, all was well.
