I am wanting to save a little money and do my own oil change on my 2004 F250. I have the tools, but wanted to know if anyone has put it on video for reference?
It's very simple to do and I'd urge you to purchase a fumoto valve (replaces the oil pan drain plug) to simplify it even more. You'll need a 36mm socket to loosen the oil cap and something that will contain 4 gallons of oil.
Run the engine to warm the oil and suspend any particulates that may have settled to the bottom of the oil pan. After shutting off the motor, loosen, but do not completely remove, the oil cap so it pops up but still sits loosely on the filter and filter housing. This allows the oil filter and housing to drain to the oil pan and aids in a cleaner job. At this point you can start draining the pan, which will require a 15+ quart container. If you choose to install a fumoto valve at this point you'll be able to use smaller containers later on to catch your oil and make disposal easier since you can turn the valve on and off. Now go back to the filter, remove the cap and the filter will come out with it. The filter snaps into the cap for reinstallation after you change the o-ring on the cap. Lube the NEW o-ring and reinstall the filter/cap assembly. Refill with oil. The whole process takes about 30 minutes (or less).
Disregard parts man, they are very easy to come by on the internet. I was concerned at first about the valve coming open on its own, but it has a built in locking feature!
