Bad Cab Ground?

Bad Cab Ground?
Ever since installing my engine gauges I have been puzzled my the voltage it shows. It shows 12.7 volts off and only goes up to around 13.2 when running down the road. It wasn't as high as I would like, but the truck always ran and started fine so I wasn't too concerned, especially since I was planning on putting a high amp alternator on the truck in the future. I installed a 200 amp alternator a few days ago and ran a 4ga wire from the alternator to the battery and I ran another ground from the engine block to the negative battery terminal as well. After starting the truck voltage at the battery with a voltmeter shows 14.4 volts. When I jump back in the cab I am still reading 13.2 volts...! Could this be a bad cab ground lowering the voltage by the time it gets to the cab? I will also add that the addition of the extra ground wire to the engine block seemed to make the truck turn over faster when starting.
