Check out the dimmer switch then. If you have a multimeter, check to see if you are getting voltage to the switch. I want to saw you'll find 3 wires at the connector for the floor dimmer switch. The middle should have voltage when headlights are on, and it sends the voltage to one outside wire for high, the other for low. I was having the same problem with high's not working, but fixed it by cleaning up the switch (though I really should just replace it one of these days)
If you don't have voltage to there, check the fuses and the headlight switch on the dash.
I don't have voltage there when the lights are on.... Could it be one or both relays in that harness? Fuses under dash are good. Or should I just go ahead and tackle that headlight switch? That doesn't sound very enjoyable by the looks of it
The relays are downstream of the dimmer switch, so they're out of the picture if there's no voltage at the dimmer.
Just in case the power into the dimmer switch is not the middle terminal, did you check all three?
The bright and low on the dimmer showed something, the middle did not.
Have the switch out and it shows continuity between the points for the headlights. So guess that's good. Looking at the connector on the harness and there is no obvious melt downs or burns or anything, it's looking like that connector is not getting the 12v feed. Show no connection on the meter when it's grounded....so it's looking like there might be an issue with the power wire somewhere down the line ? ?
Fuses are fine
Pissing rain right now so it will have to hold off till tomorrow
Sounds like you might have to look at the headlight switch then.
Got the switch out , it shows continuity when I the on position. Tried jumping the connection and still couldn't get the lights to turn on. The 12v feed to the plug on the harness is not getting any power. Nothing looks burnt up or in bad shape tho.
Did some poking around, the headlights plugs did not have power. The factory headlight harness I cut did still have power. I just re attached the headlights to the factory harness and EVERYTHING works now! brights and low beams. Guess it was those relays then .... They were 23$ each so I just got rid of the whole "upgrade harness" all together
Back to factory and everything is working as it should.
Maybe someday I'll just buy new relays for it but for now stock working lows and actually having brights is good with me
Ummm $23 each for what? are they just standard auto relays? because I'm pretty sure you can get them for less than $5 each at most auto stores.
The relays were only at oriellys or some other online sites and they were 22.99$ each. The set up had 2 relays ... # BWD R4136 was the equivalent to what I have now
