What is a CDR ?

I'm burning oil like fuel now that I'm back on the road with the rebuilt tranny. She rides good, doesn't smoke too much, except after idling long periods then accelerating, hardly at all on startup. But, she's burning about a quart every 50 miles ? Just replaced the rear main seal and no real signs of leaking anywhere else.

Saw a member on oilburners post up that a new CDR fixed this on his '88. I'm not a member there and couldn't ask. Anyone here know what they are, where to get one, and how much $ ????

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas !
Kirk

CDR= Crankcase decompression regulator It acts like a pcv valve on a gasser. It is located under the air cleaner on the rear of the motor on a non turbo, and on the drivers side valve cover on a factory turboed motor. It is about the size of a tuna can, held on the intake with 2 bolts. Go to Ford or International truck dealers for a replacement.

It's possibly also located inside the radio if you have a CD playing head unit.

You can try taking the CDR off and cleaning it real good before you buy a new one. Soak it in gas to get all the oil out then let it dry completely before putting it back on. May just need a good cleaning.

Thanks for the help guys ! I pulled the air cleaner and there it was, along with a pinched throttle cable and vacuum lines. I'll pull and soak it tomorrow. The whole family is loading up in this red beast to visit family. Merry Christmas !

How long do you let it soak in a can of gas before you let it air dry to put back on???? ... Can I run my idi for a day with out the cdr while its marinateing in the fuel?

About an hour, and once in a while during that hour, take it out, shake it, soak it back in, take it out, shake, and let it soak again for a while before doing that again.

Then let it AIR DRY ONLY!

DO NOT blow air into it, you can blow out the diaphragm inside!

I don't see why you couldn't just delete the thing all together. I have looked on my 6.9 and the CDR is MIA on my truck. I'm assuming it has been deleted off at some point in time.

The older Dodge Cummins trucks don't even have one, they have a road draft tube...
