I have a 2003 e350 with tranny problems. In tracking some wires under the dash, I found a white, 9-prong plug disconnected. It is approximately square and has 3 rows of 3 prongs. Both the male and female ends are here, but disconnected. It is centered just under the steering column. The wires are:
First rowark green with the number "1" on it every inch or so
Dark blue
White
Second row: Black with "1"
Orange with "5"
Dark brown with"2"
Third row: Black with "1"
Empty
Light Purple
I have the factory schematic manual and I can't find this plug. Should I connect the plug? What does it control?

Look a bit farther back and see if it's labeled - could be for a trailer brake controller or the AIC. On our trucks the brake controller plug was tied up out of the way just above the go-petal. Can't recall exactly where the AIC plug is but IIRC its in the same general area.
Thanks,
It is a bus, so the plug may be post-factory. The wires are a bit thicker than most of the Ford wires and don't match anything in the manual. Since the plug consists of a male and matching female, I guess I will leave it disconnected. Merry Christmas, all.
Im thinking of a trailer brake harness. Not sure bit I think from factory they came with the pigtail plugged in to the harness, ready to be wired for a brake controller. Now a days when someone sells their truck and has a nice controller they take that pigtail and controller leaving the future buyer having to find a pigtail or hardwire in his controller. Don't let go of it. If you pull any trailers with electric brakes it will be of some use if you get a controller!
