I purchased a 2005 f-250 with a 6.0L PSD with 220 km in May. Has been running great since i bought it. Took in to town for lunch today and it ran great as usual. I started it up after lunch and started with no problems. I went to drive away and it had no power, ran really rough off idle and smoked like crazy. (whiteish/grey smoke) I limped it home and drove another vehicle back to work. I started it up after work and it ran great, took it around the block with no problems. I let it idle to operating temp and went to take it around the block again. As soon as I backed out of the driveway and gave it some throttle, it started bucking, no power and smoking again. Shut it off for five minutes, started it up again, revved it up a couple times, one big puff of smoke and its ran great since.
sounds like egr valve. remove it, clean it with brake cleaner, but be sure to hold it the right way while doing it, dont let any liqid get in the two holes in it. instally a new gasket kit and make sure there isnt any liquid in the exhaust manifold. if so, the egr needs to be deleted.
Don't use brake cleaner - use carb cleaner. Brake clean can damage the shaft seal (and yes the cleaner can "wick" up the shaft and contact the seal even if you don't submerge the valve past the actuator drain holes).
