So i will be starting a 2900 mile trip from dc to ca and needless to say im worried bout the truck.....not because there are any issues with it at the moment ( knock on wood). Its just ever since being a part of the 6.0 world i have been on these forums and all you read about are problems with the 6.0 and people being stranded. Hopefully she will shine on this trip and me and my family will make it to cali without haveing to do major work during the trip, as most of my money is tied up in the move. I have done proper maintenence since i have owned the truck. Also i just performed a oil change with filter to include fuel filter just dont know if there is any other maintenence i should do before i take off?
When I first joined this site a week or so ago and started reading the posts I thought "holy crap, these trucks are POS". Then I noticed how many Super Duty's I see every day and thought about the possibilities if that number were multiplied by every community across the country. I then realized the number of problems reported here were really not so bad.
Every day I drive to and from work (20 miles each way) and expect to see half a dozen broken down 6.0's on the side of the highway during the drive. I have never even seen one (in six years of owning one and watching for such things). Throw in a couple of long vacation trips a year - same thing - whats up with that (LOL)!! ...........................
Even if you did see one broken down on the side of the road. Do you know why it's broken down? Is it due to the piece of crap engine inside of it or is it some dip wad thing that the owner did and doesn't know it or doesn't want to admit to it?
I remember when I got my 97 7.3. All my friends and folks on the forums were painting pictures of how I would be left on the road. Well if they were as bad as everyone said there should have 100's along the highways. Mine never left me down other than a brake vacuum pump failure. 167,000 miles. Good maintenance goes a long way with driving with sense. Have a good trip!
