Getting Nervous

'04 F250 FX4 6.0 SC Longbed...3200 miles...13.4 MPG city on a good day.
Currently Truck runs great and I do mean GREAT...build date 10/03 truck and engine.

OK, I know it's early but I'm getting nervous. Going on 1600 mile round trip to Eastern Tennesse around the 4th of July. I will have approx. 5100 miles on the truck my the time we leave. Seems like if bad things are going to happen that they will happen around 5000+ miles. I would really hate to get stranded with the family in the mountains of Tennesse or anywhere else for that matter.

Even the good trucks seem to be having some problems. I am planning an oil change with the Mobil Truck SUV syn as learned through these forums. Should I wait before I change oil types?

What should be other concerns? To much luggage to throw a Focus in the bed.

Glad to have found FTE. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Do not be nervous, you have your one eight hundred help I own a six-o…. number in your wallet, correct.

Seriously, make sure you have a cell…. OK I am sorry, too many 6.0 jokes.
I have hooked mine up to the trailer and pulled all over this country. It has never left me anywhere.
Drive it and enjoy it.

You'll be ok. I only recall a couple of stranded stories on this site for the most part the problems are performance issues that these trucks have and not reliability issues. Although I am sure someone will chime in here after I post this with a horror story and scare us all to you know where. Once the bugs were worked out of my truck it has been great. And it wasn't that bad before with the bugs, its just that we PS owners are picky. You should also notice your mileage come up conciderably on your trip. Take care and enjoy don't worry, that's what we have warranties for.

I just drove my early 03 from central Texas to SF Bay Area and back. The only problem I had was sticker shock on the price of diesel in some (nat all) parts of CA.

I don't want to rain on the parade...

But I'm currently stranded in Chicago, with the "stalling out" issue, and the dealership is talking "wiring harness" Detroit told them they haven't seen my error codes b4 on the computer, so their even more confused.

So, step 1 they are overnighting a new computer.... but the dealer said theyv'e seen this b4 and it'll ultimately end up being a long drawn out repair...

This dealer is a Fleet dealer, so they've been to this "Rodeo" before....

ARRRRGGGGHHHHH.

So here I sit in a hotel room, that Ford says they won't pay for... we'll see about that.... that's what attorney's are good for...

Thanks to all for your responses. I am a die hard Ford fan...but you do seem to hear more bad than good in open forums. I've been in sales and sales management for 32 years (oops, that dates me) and I know that the good usually far out numbers the bad especially in the volume of vehicles we are talking about here.

That said...I would sure hate to be in rdenman's position right now.

FYI rdeman: Since you are in Chicago area you should try to make it to the Navy Pier.
I get up there a couple of times a year an I go their every time. Good Luck with the truck.

I just drove my "Jan '03" 6.0 (with 30,000 mi) from Florida to North Carolina on a two day trip for a funeral. I refused to drive my wife's Volvo, since I wanted the 8000#'s of steel around my family on the interstate. Never a hickup. Don't worry.

This forum is mainly for *itching and complaining -- we hope that by doing so Ford will listen and perfect the 6.0. Most of us are happy campers.. I only have a couple of complaints and overall love my truck.

Do you really think that Ford monitors this forum and uses it as part of the marketing? I don't. I think this forum is a place for us owners to share information. I don't think complaining here will do anything as far as Ford's behavior. You are better off working through your dealer and directly with Ford. Do you have one instance of a post here that has influenced Ford's behavior? That being said, I sympathise with redenman.

The first time I saw read posts about stalls and then saw the bulleting on wire harness chafing, I bought a few feet of wire loom and got under the hood and checked the wire harness and added wire loom to places that looked like potential problems fro chafing and used some tape. I also check my oil, drain the fuel/water separator, rotate my tires and do the scheduled maintenance.

I'm with you. Ford is not on this forum. This is good for support in numbers and sharing of information. We also develop new friendships.

We have all learned that the best thing we can do for ourselves is to maintain our trucks, personally if we have the inclination.

Yes, I think Ford DOES monitor this Forum and TDS. Very vocal Ford and IH employees have mysteriously disappeared from these Forums virtually overnight. H'mmmm. I wonder why that is?

Now, does Ford do anything with the posts its reads here? That I don't know. But make no mistake, someone at Ford reads these posts.

It would be stupid not to.

There have been a few but they just changed their names and adopted a lower profile. Some of us would like to think that we are important enough that they would spend their money to pay someone (a herd of someones) to read our posts and report on what we say.

It's not happening except in the minds of a few who need to stroke their own egos by dreaming. We are nothing to Ford and mean nothing in the overall scheme of things. Their plans and responses were developed scientifically year by year and will not be influenced by some peon on a forum.
