I've fine it on a military hmmwv a few times and it sucks, now does anyone have any good input on it and how long it should take me if I do it in a parking lot? Studio anything rise I should know ? ie a picture by picture thread on how to do it?
I hope this was typed from a cell phone that was auto-correcting words...because I can't understand 80% of it.
But to answer the question I think you are asking, it shouldn't be too hard to do anywhere. You may need a buddy to help you as the starter is a heavy sucker, but the access is below the passenger seat of the vehicle, next to the transmission. If you have a low 4x2, you may want to put it on sturdy jack stands for the job...if you have it lifted or a 4x4, you may not need to.
IIRC, 99-01, it's three bolts holding it on...'02 and up it's only two bolts. Make sure you disconnect the batteries first, disconnect the wires, then take out the bolts.
I took mine off when I changed my clutch a few years ago and It seemed easy, I don't remember it was heavy though lol. But there is on bolt that was difficult to reach.
Yeah my damn phone sorry guys at least u did understand what I was trying to say I live in the barracks in the army so I'm going to try and do it in the parkinglot

When you attach the small wire to the small post pin on the starter be very careful how tight you get it or you will twist the bolt right out of the plastic housing....
The Kids must have been playing with my torque wrench setting....err
I was tightening my rebuilt down to fast and when it bottomed out.... I kept going and it snapped right off. I took it back to the guy who rebuilt it and he just charged me for the part that goes on the side of the starter, no labor charge. He said that it must have been 'defective' and winked at me.....
