LOL The third bolt can be a bear it is up on top of the starter kinda behind the solenoid.
I have always been able to use about a short 1/2 in socket and about 8 in extention to get it. but before you do it put one of your bottom bolts back in and tighten it makes the top one a lot easier.

It is the same size as the bottom bolts.
Once you find it and get a socket on it you will find that it is not too bad to get out. And good advice to leave one of the easier bolts tight untill you get it out.

If they are the original bolts they should have 1/2 in heads on them bet they are 3/8 bolts if changed they would be 9/16 heads.

Top one is a pain...you can get at it with some extensions and a swivel joint, or possibly with a shorty ratcheting wrench.

Strangely, getting it back in proved to be easier than removing it, for me at least.

You don't have to take the solonoid off to get to the bolt. Not sure about the black powerdy stuff how much was there.
Did your top bolt have a 1/2 or 9/16 bolt head on it the 9/16 are harder to get a socket on.

There will always be some black stuff in there. I'm assuming the starter was not working good to start with. you don't need to take it apart there unless you are planning to put new bushings and brushes in it hardly ever hear of anybody doing that anymore.

The black powdery crap is most likely off the clutch.

BTW the "electric motor part" that you took off was the solenoid.

That stupid solenoid costs as much as a whole starter for my thunderbird.

If he took the long screws out he took the armature housing off.
