Thermostat Question...?

I need to change out my thermostat. The temp gauge is showing completely cold or about 1/4 way to Normal. I have no heat unless I drive for about 30 mins. Would it be smart to just put in a new water pump while I'm changing it out? Or if there's nothing wrong with the one I got now, just leave it? Only reason why I'm asking is because I've had a water pump go out on me out of no where, and I'm thinking I should change it out since it will already be off anyways. The truck is a 94 V6 4.0L 4x4 with around 130,000 miles. with what looks like the original water pump installed. May be a stupid question, but I know there are bigger motor heads in here that have way more experience and knowledge than I do. Appreciate the advice in advance.

I'm not familiar with the 4.0, but if the water pump has to come off to replace the t-stat, it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace it. Particularly if you suspect it is the original.
Typically, new water pumps aren't that much more costly than a reman, so I tend to go with a new one. A bit lower chance of having one assembled poorly, if it has never been disassembled previously.

You don't have to pull the pump to replace the tstat. I wouldn't even have thought of replacing both together. It's inexpensive enough, but I don't think really necessary. I've usually only replaced water pumps at 40 years or 225K..
