I bought mine because the 1973 gmc sierra dually that I used for towing my 32 foot TT is not only getting up there in the years but the miles as well (314,000). I started looking for a truck and found the pickups demanded a higher price than the ex's. I got lucky and found a sub 186,000 mile ex that had not been "molested" by a young owner. just right for me to "molest". the wife says she feels guilty riding around in it.
I bought mine for room for the family and to have some fun light off roading, Beach trips, ski trips etc. Also I have owned many Ford Pick ups, and a few Hummer H1's and 2's. This was one of a few trucks I always wanted to own. Must say I love it!
Why did I buy one? Why didnt I buy one years ago? Glad I had this beast after Hurricane Sandy, I had to move my parents out of their home as well as move my boat......all in one trip as the state police gave us one day and no return trips over the bridge. I had all my parents personal belongings including all their food (my mom stocks for an army 3 coolers full), 2 file cabinets, clothing for mutliple seasons and other items with sentimental value loaded into the EX, along with 3 of us too empty the house, my boat loaded with expensive rods and reels and other fishing gear hooked up on the back. The EX felt heavy but she pulled it all over the bridge with no worries and I would have felt comfortable taking that load long distance if need be. Very stable, and handled awesome with no hesitation at stop lights....love this thing
1 Room room and more room
2 Diesel option, and 2 different diesels to pick from
3 Towing capacity
4 Easy to work on
5 Reliable
6 Well....just look at it, they are pretty too

Thanks, my family was extremely lucky, and everytime I go over into Seaside and Mantaloking I'm reminded of that. The dune system by my parents house held up and they recieved no damage at all water came up and just kissed their foundation, just couldnt live in the house since all utilities were turned off to the island. My brothers house is on west side of Barnegat bay directly across from one of the areas the ocean breached the sand dunes, he had water 3" below his subfloor, very lucky considering most of his neighbors lost cars, their first floors and one house was completely destroyed, nothing but a few foundation blocks left.
I was a little apprehensive of the color when I saw the EX listed online as green, but with such low mileage on a 7.3 (had 82k when I bought it a year ago) I went to test drive anyway, 3 1/2 hrs out to test drive all was good color wasnt what I expected and it looked awesome dark green its almost black in some light, and 3 1/2 hrs home with my new to me EX. Been a year and no looking back

Glad everyone is fine as we know alot weren't so fortunate.
I actually thought the truck was a dark bluish color. I now see the green. But it looks great. I've had mine a year also but it wasn't like this when i got it. It was stock chrome bumpers and wheels. This blue grew more on me after the black stuff but i wasn't too into it with the chrome. I knew from when i first laid eyes on it that i would end up doing something to change the look of this truck. It was just too big to not leave an impression.
Two basic reasons:
First I got sick and tired of getting soaked in the rain riding the Harley to work and back, and when I took the wife's Jeep Commander did I ever hear about it, and the Corvette I had was not reliable.
Second we'd taken the Commander, with 7 in it, on a trip from Charleston to the northwest of Atlanta, and for a two day stay, I had to strap things to the roof.
After I got well from one hellacious cold, (riding in the rain again), I decided to look into something bigger for just going to work and back in adverse weather, and for family trips.
Picked up a 2001 Limited 2WD, V10, and drove it to visit my folks NW of Atlanta. Managed 14.4 mpg, in comfort! PLUS we didn't have to lash anything to the roof. Everything was behind the third row seat...
As an aside, I feel so much safer in this. Spun out in NC after sleet covered the road in late January. Felt reassured that I had the structure and weight to protect me, hit the gas, rocked and got back on the road...

Holy upgrade, Batman! From a Harley to an Excursion!!!
does she realize its about 3ft or more shorter then a crew cab long bed pickup?
one of the reasons I went for the excursion over a pickup. getting almost three times the fuel mileage reduces the guilt, and so does being able to fit a queen sized air mattress in the back helps too.
I forgot to mention, that I still ride the Harley almost daily, as I cannot give up 45 to 50 mpg, and I drive the Excursion when it's forecast to rain.
Plus when we have to go someplace it is in the Excursion, as I've not got the wife's confidence to ride with me..
