Very well protected. My little ones love mine. They call it the Blue tank. Cute kids, one day they'll be fighting for the keys..

Why did I buy an Excursion?
1.) its a FORD
2.) We have 6 kids
3.) Can't afford the presidents' Caddilac
4.) The liberal media proclaimed it as "a blatant example of exorbitant American consumerism"
5.) It doesn't just run on gasoline, but also burns the tears and dreams of the tree-huggin, enviro-hippie, global warming sheeple.
6.) and finally...BECAUSE THIS IS AMERICA and I CAN!!!!

Let's see...

Wife
3 kids (and their friends)
Dog
Multiple cross country trips coming up this year
Towing capability
4x4 (I'm currently living in Colorado)

I looked at the Expedition but with the 3rd row there is only a few inches of cargo room and the gas mileage isn't much better (actually worse when towing).

Not to mention I got a hell of a deal on it.

Well lets see.

1 kids
2 I had a topper on my past trucks ALL the time
3 because they are there to be bought
4 because they have a diesel option
5 because they are just cool!

And because not many SUV's can pull what I pull and get the mileage most can't even get empty by themselves.

Do you tow both the RV and The boat together? That would look really badass to me if i were to see it on the road. All you need is a set of dirt bikes or 4 wheels and you would be set. Out of curiosity. How many trailers can you tow from one vehicle without any infractions from DOT or HWP?

Yes I pull both and two trailers is the limit here in WI. We used to need to send in for permits every year but they dropped that last year. So now it is just hook up and go.

There are stipulations though like the whole rig can't be over 65' long, the first trailer has to have brakes, and stuff like that.

The pic you see in my sig is ab out 5 minutes before I roll out onto the highway just like it is. I get lots of looks!

I can sacrifice mpg's for the sheer mass of this tank. I have peace of mind in knowing that my wife feels the most safe driving the X with are kids over are other vehicles. I initially bought it for seating/storage capacity ie kids, friends, bulldogs, etc.

If you're thinking of getting an excursion and none of the reasons on this thread have convinced you that this is the top SUV of the road, then take a look at this. I can fit 4 whole pumpkin pies in the center compartment. Beat that!!! lol
