HELP - 6.0L PSD Starting problems...
What I am being told is that the Injector Driver Module??? Using the after hours mechanic, parts and labor is $875.00 and I will have to have it towed to his house for the 6 hours of labor to change it out.
Now that being said and my earlier statments that I am not a mechanic, I do know by the sounds of it that a module should be one part that would/might be outside of the motor that would control the injectors. So maybe is it the FICM? Canit be worth that much? I am looking on eBay and the FICM are running $69.95, so the rest of the dollars is labor? Am I buying this man's Christmas for him?
Please some advise...
First off, does he realize that you have a 6.0 Powerstroke below the hood of your truck? 7.3s like mine have IDMs and 6.0s have FICMs....
We talked on the phone, you know where the FICM is and you KNOW it's not going to take 6 hours to do that. At most an hour....
This same thing happened to my neighbor on his '04 Superduty. His FICM went out and Tomball Ford took $1100 from him and when asked what they had to do to get to it, the service advisor gave him this answer:
"We had to remove the turbo as it sits in the middle of the engine and is gear driven..." If they were talking about the HPOP, that would be ok, but since they weren't, my neighbor got taken, and so my friend, I think you are too.
What proof does this guy have that he actually did what he told you?
My guess is that the 6 hours of labor is to figure out whats actually wrong, pad the bill, and keep your truck there on a mechanic's lien. My suggestion to you: don't trust this guy...
Were you able to program the parameters I sent you into your Scanguage? You'll immediately know if it's the FICM since you'll be able to monitor the FICM voltage.
Well the swap is done and I just got through tromping on it down a back road and I am impressed! It took me, the not-a-mechanic, 1 hour 30 minutes and that was with shooting the poop and taking my fatboy breathers from having to lean up under the hood in ways that my body was not designed for. It was rather critical of a job for me so I left out the Beer Alignment Tool this time, but I am meeting with him now that it is over and getting his blessing on it and apologizing profusely for leaving him out of it. All in all I am pleased with the savings and I am VERY pleased with Swamp's. It was not as easy as I thought it was going to be, got some scrapes and scratches on the arms and there were 6 screws instead of 4. The plugs on the underneath side were probably the hardest part of the whole swap to get them un-plugged was really difficult, they do not leave a whole lot of room to get your hand under there to squeeze the connectors and pull them off. That is when I took most of my fatboy breathers.
