Help with front axle code

Hello all, first time posting on this site. I'm in the process of purchasing a 77 F150 4x4 SWB. I have decoded the VIN tag but have been stumped on the axle section. The code is "H2J" can someone tell me what the front axle is? All I've been able to find is that J stands for power steering.

'H2' is a Ford 9" 3.50's with limited slip, 'J' as you noted is P/S

your front axle will be a Dana 44 (assuming it's original).

Thank you, was looking everywhere on the tag for the front axle info.

Other than (J) Ford RARELY put front axle info on the warranty plate.

Dana (Spicer) front driving & rear axles: The AXLE ID tag is located under one of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing.

The problemo is, many are missing today.

Bill of Material (BOM) numbers

Not sure if the D44 front axle has BOM# like my D60 but it is worth a shot. i got a list of BOM# for D60 front axles over at Pirate4x4.com and it was a big help when i was looking to buy. Maybe you could ask Bill (NumberDummy) he may be able to help further with this. photo shows where to look. just flip the photo, lol

Thanks for all the info, haven't bought the truck yet just trying to do some research on it. It's a 77 f150, C6 tranny, 400cid, SWB. Only negative is it doesn't have a bed.
