Ok...well I stripped my truck down to its frame last summer and am now trying to put it back together. My biggest problem seems to be getting the cab back on. I have a cherry picker and lots of chain and tie straps. I cant figure out out to hook this up so it will lift evenly. Anybody here have any advice/pics they could send my way to help me? I know an overhead hoist would be better, but thats not something that I have. I also dont want to stress the cab too much because I dont want the winshield to crack (it is still good).
LOL...well, I dont have that many friends here! I am thinking I need to hook up the cherry picker via chain to the front looping through the many holes in the firewall (thats the heavy part), and somehow hooking upo straps to the back via the bolts that hold the seatbelts to the cab floor.
if you want to try to save the winshield in one peice i would get some people together. another device maybe be a comealong. if you have a something solid above like a beam. then you put 4x4 posts threw the doors then staps off of that to the comealong end. then jack it up.
Yeah, I dont have anything above is my big problem. I am outside with nothing above, no big tree either. I am going to go outside here shortly and try my latest idea and see what happens I guess. I suppose even if the windshield cracks it wont be the end of the world...just trying to avoid it.
I use an engine hoist with a bar bolted to it so it spanned the length of the cab and held it by the door frames. I only have one picture and it isn't very good.
I have heard other people using bolts and chain hooked the the floor where your cab mount holes are. Also put some weight in the back of the cab to offset the front. I had to put about 80lbs in the back to make it level out.
Success!! With a cherry picker, a chain, a tie strap, 3 bags of concrete (to offset the weight), and my wife...we got er bolted down again. WHEW!! I forgot how much fun these trucks are to work on.
"Helipirate"---Too bad you didnt have a better picture, that looks like a good way to do it!
