I have done a search on this,, and read a ton of input...But my situation is a little different. My truck is a 66 Custom Cab with sweeping speedo...I have 2 lights that light the instrument panel,, and 1 light for each turn signal. Other peoples input was the right indicator is for BOTH blinkers, and the one on the left is hi_beam indicator....Well, the color is amber on BOTH. Otherwise, I have no place to put the hi-beam light. Should I assume someone has altered all this, using both indicators for turn signals, and eliminating the hi-beam light ????
On a different problem,, I rarely drive the truck after dark. When I have, I have had the lights go to blinking. In a different thread days ago, everyone said it was the headlight switch. I took out the old one and put in a NEW one,, boy the old one was in poor shape. I drove the truck last night, and after 30 miles, ALL my lights went out-completely. I stopped quickly trying to stay in the road, and hit the floor dimmer, and nothing. I pushed in (cut off) the headlight switch and turned them on again and it all worked. What happened ?? I need to eliminate that from happening again-that is very dangerous. What yall think ??
Thanks,, Dan
On my 66 the blinker indicator is green and on the right for both blinkers ( yes very wierd but...) and the high beam indicator is on the left. I've had the bright switch go bad and cause the lights to go out as well. The possibility that your headlight switch or bright switch has effected and weakend the other,so replace the dimmer switch too. I'm very confident that you don't have a short in your headlight wiring since you don't say anything about replacing fuses. I'm not aware of any curcuit breakers in line with the headlights but then again who knows what has been cut in by previous owners, so you might follow the wiring and see.
The headlight switch has a built in circuit breaker...as for the lights on the dash...a PO has changed the turn signal indicaters...its RH grren flashing for turn signals and the high beam indicater light is on the left with the red lense.
the lights failing issue..lift up the floor mat and unbolt the dimmer from the floor...look at the condition of the dimmer switch wiring at the connecter..its a trap for crap and moisture...and corrosion...unplug the two, clean up the 2 and reassemble...clean the floor area around the screw holes...a bad ground may be part of the issue...check the headlight wiring grounds up front on the radiator core support...clean them up as well...also look at the condition of the firewall main disconnects...dont unplug those though.
See where this gets you and let us know what happens...
Thanks, I will try those for the headlights.....
As far as the indicators, my situation is different,, there are no green and red indicators,, BOTH are amber,, and it is the original speedo ....What I have done thus far, I like the turn signals being on a left indicator and a right indicator. I have ordered a very small blue 12V light for my hi-beam and mounting it to the side just outside the speedo housing.....I have allready put a red one there, but I have a blue one on the way......I thank you for your input....Dan
This is what happens when you change a standard cab round speedo out for a custom cab sweep type.
The TS bezel is green plastic and the high beams blue.
The lamps for the TS lamp feed needs to be brought together and then you can place the High beam in the correct left side spot. You have to check for back feed when doing this on the TS bulb.
