Amen brother! I put my '55 on the road in '89 (only to be run off the road with less than 1000 miles on it in '90 and have to do a bunch of it again.) Back then, info was hard to find and correct info was like a gold mine.

In high skrool, I went to the auto parts store and was assured that 360 and 390 rods were the same length because he had built "hundreds." So I started putting the engine together.

Well, a 390 crank with 360 rods and generic pistons will cause said pistons to come out of the hole about 0.020." So I call the the auto parts store again and he assures me it's right. Well the gasket is about 0.050 compressed so I suppose it will work.

As the pistons get warm, they start slapping the heads and when you turn off the key it runs for some period of time, quite well I might add, on compression alone.

And I am working outside and it is snowing 15 miles north of Galveston TX.

So yes, I will go to great lengths to answer any question and offer any help to the new guys I can.

Thank G-d Algore invented the internet!
