Flashing theft light?

What is the flashing theft light for if you dont have a alarm sys on the Ex? I never put an alarm sys on and I dont think it comes from the factory with an alarm sys. I think of the flashing light just draining the batt after a week. Someone please explain this to me.

That is your PATS system. Only keys with the RFID chip inside will be able to start the engine.

What I've heard people do is put the chip part of their key near the ignition on the steering column and just cut regular plain keys to start their Ex. This way, you lose a key, you can easily cut another for a buck at Wally world. You can swim with the regular key in your pocket. The drawback is you can just stick something in the lock cylinder and turn it and the truck will start.

That's kind of how they set up the remote starter on these trucks.

When I bought my most recent X the dealer " thought " it had a remote start, but couldn't get it to work. After I got it home I climbed under the dash and found the control box, which was indeed a remote start. I made sure it had power and started playing with the key fob to try and figure out the start procedure ( that took a while but I got it ). So does that box essentially have a PATS key inside?

When i had my viper 5902 installed, it is another module for the PATS bypass system. There is no need to have a cutoff key under the dash. Cause' if you do that, someone can chop the column and start the truck and drive away. When you have the module for the bypass, that wont happen, the alarm will go off and they still wont be able to drive away that easily. Either way, if they want it bad enough, they are gonna get it. Thought I'd share that with those who want a remote start and dont want to chop a good key apart.
