Can blinking theft light in dashboard be disabled?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-02 AT 02:37 PM (EST)]I find the blinking "theft" light (anti-theft/SecuriLock) in the Explorer (and other Ford autos) to be rather annoying.. does anyone know of a way to disable the blinking in the 2002 Explorer model or other Ford autos? I know it doesn't blink when driving, but when trying to sleep or just sit in the parked car, the constant blinking light is annoying... yes, I know I should get over it, but I am looking for a systematic solution (like a fuse?) other than placing a piece of black tape over the light on the dash..

I like the chip-coded key aspect of SecuriLock, but it would be nice if the blinking light could be turned on or off at the discretion of the car owner..

Thanks,

Winsco

This got me curious. I've slept in the truck while going over the road, and the blinking lite didnt come on. So today I figured out why. If you "lock yourself in" using the remote, it activates the alarm system, since the alarm has no clue whether you're in the vehicle or outside it. If you "lock yourself in" using the power doorlock rocker switch; it wont. Does yours do something different?? Actually, I'm told that in newer model years they've actually made the lite more obvious from the outside; mine is sort of hidden away in a corner of the instrument cluster.

Marrug, my 98 continues to flash after the alarm is set (after it initially pulsates). I don't know about the 02, though.

Your vehcile has a Passive Anti Theft System or PATS theft system as i'm sure you know there is a computer chip in your key when your key is not in your ignition your PCM is looking for the key or more specificly the chip and when it is looking for it the light blinks if a key without the correctly programmed chip in it tries to start your truck the PCM will disable the engine and then the light will stay on untill about 10 secs after the key is removed and will begin blinking again. Sorry but there is no way to turn off the light its part of the security system.

I'm thinking that since it's an LED, it's just gonna need power to go on, so when your alarm is set, or key is out of your ignition, it's gonna get power from the brain. If you can find a way to get to the led itself, just disconnect the wire, but that would be the only way.
