Starting Issues-Running
First off I really haven't had a chance to do any trouble shooting on the truck. So before I begin I'm looking for some ideas to start with.
Problem: When trying to start the truck after it's been sitting (cold), I'll go through the starting process. Turn key on, wait for the start light to go out ( I know it's just a timer) and wait some more. Truck seems to start like normal. It will run at low idle for a few minutes and then when it starts the transition to high idle it dies. It almost seems like it is running out of fuel. After trying to re-start it, it has an excessively long crank (probably half a minute or more). When it re-starts, it acts like its only firing on one or two cylinders. Truck will then have a very rough idle. If I try to slightly give it some peddle it dies. Sometimes I can get the RPMs up with the peddle but then it just quiets running like it runs out of fuel. Once the engine dies I can hear the fuel pump running like it would when you first turn on the key and it cycle through for a start.
I know I keep thing that there is a fuel problem but I'm looking for any other ideas that I should try to trouble when I get into it.
Any thought and ideas would be appreciated, thanks Brice.
I had seen that thread you posted sometime ago but had forgotten about it.
Do you know or can anyone tell me if there is a way to test for the low oil PSI. I hadn't noticed the gauge on the dash not picking up on the initial start. I have however watched the oil gauge rise to the normal position on the excessively long cranks.
The other thing about this I should have added is, once I get it running there isn't any smoke or smell like unburnt fuel.
The only other thing I've noticed is that the fuel milage is down quite a bit but other than that everything else seems to be normal.
I guess I'll have to make a trip to work and pick up Fluke and start to do some testing.
Again thanks foe the quick response.
Any other suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks again Brice
I'm going to let it set over night and then do some checks in the morning. The temps should be in the low twenties. I keep it garaged so the engine should be in the mid twenties or so.
